Holika Dahan (March 3 Eve)

The ritual of burning the demoness Holika, signifying the victory of Bhakta Prahlada's devotion over evil.

  • Dried wood and twigs
  • Cow dung cakes (Gulari)
  • Raw cotton thread
  • Akshat (Rice)
  • Flowers
  • Moong Dal

How to do Puja

Perform the puja during Pradosh Kaal (after sunset). Gather near the bonfire with family.

  • Worship Lord Ganesha first for success.
  • Offer water and Akshat to the Holika pile.
  • Circumambulate (Parikrama) the fire 3 or 7 times.
  • Offer the raw cotton thread around the bonfire while praying.
  • Offer roasted grains (Jau) into the fire as a symbol of abundance.
